Rules
Acey deucey is a variant of backgammon. The rules for this particular version come
from my grandfather's time as a marine during the Korean war.
-
Players begin with checkers off the board and attempt to move all their pieces around the board
and off the opposite side.
- During their turn, a player moves at least one checker the number of spaces shown on the dice.
- The numbers on each die consitute separate rolls.
- Checkers may be moved on the board at any time during a player's turn.
-
A player may move a checker to an empty space, a space occupied by their own pieces,
or a space occupied by only one of the opposing player's pieces.
-
If a player moves to a space with one of their opponent's checkers, the opponent's
checker is captured and moves to the bar.
-
If a player has checkers on the bar, they must move those checkers off the bar
before moving any others.
- If a player has no spaces to which they are allowed to move, their turn is over.
- If a player rolls doubles, they may make four moves of that number.
-
If a player rolls an acey deucey (a one and a two), they must use those rolls, but then may
choose doubles of any number and get to roll again.
- A player wins by moving all their pieces off the board.
-
A checker may only be moved off the board when all that player's checkers are in the
last quadrant of the board.
-
A checker may be moved off the board by a roll that is equal to or larger than the
number of spaces required to leave the board.
